What is Osteopathy ?

Osteopathy was developed by A.T.Still in the nineteenth century.  He reasoned that God made man perfect.  Therefore, seen from a mechanical viewpoint, if the body structure was in correct alignment and functioned normally, with no impairment to the flow of blood or nerve impulses, then optimum health would follow.

Osteopathy is a long established system of diagnosing and treating the structure and function of the human body.  It involves the treatment of medical disorders through manipulation and massage of the skeleton and muscles.  Osteopaths are well known for treating back pain and musculo-skeletal pain.

Osteopaths use many diagnostic tools and procedures used in conventional medical assessment and diagnosis.  The training of Osteopaths involves a 5 year degree programme and is now regulated by the General Osteopathic Council ( GOsC ). All major private health insurance companies now recognise Osteopathy as a well established mainstream medicine.

Osteopathy is a safe, gentle and effective method of pain relief suitable for people of all ages.  Many parents of new born babies request cranial osteopathy treatment following difficult births. The parents are often seeking help with common infant symptoms of poor sleep habits, reflux, poor feeding and irritability.

Tamworth Osteopaths at Atlas Pain Relief Centre offer safe pregnancy back massage for pregnant mothers to be and safe treatments for pregnancy related low back pain and sciatica.

Osteopaths are well equipped to treat low back pain, sciatica, slipped discs, whiplash symptoms and trapped nerves as well as joint pain, headaches and muscular strains and offer a suitable alternative to chiropractic treatment from chiropractors.
Your first visit to an Osteopath will involve a detailed case history being taken.  This is followed by a physical examination of your muscles and joints and for this it is usual to undress to your underwear.

On completion of the examination a diagnosis of your condition is offered and a course of treatment will be prescribed. If acceptable the treatment will then commence.
