Tamworth Cranial Osteopath John Williams treats babies and children using cranial osteopathy. Parents seek help for their children who are suffering from poor sleep patterns, irritability, restlessness, colic and reflux.
Cranial Osteopathy in Tamworth has been very successful at Atlas Pain Relief Centre. Parents bring babies and children for safe gentle treatment which involves treating retained moulding of the infants head.
Birth is one of the most stressful events of our lives, babies are subjected to enormous forces during uterus contractions. The baby is forced down the birth canal and has to turn and twist as it squeezes through the bony pelvis on its short and potentially stressful journey.

The babies head has the remarkable ability to absorb these stresses in a normal delivery. In order to reduce the size of the head, the soft bones of the skull overlap, bend and warp as the baby descends. Many babies are born with odd shaped heads as a result and retained moulding patterns can be evident. Over the first few days the head should begin to lose its extreme moulding shape but often this process is incomplete. As a result the baby may have to live with some very uncomfortable stresses within its head and body.
Some babies cope well with retained moulding while others display a variety of symptoms.
Crying Irritable Baby - The baby may be uncomfortable with a constant feeling of pressure in the head made worse when lying down. Needs to be rocked to sleep and prefers to be carried seeking constant attention.
Feeding Difficulties - The baby takes a long time to feed and one feed merges into the next. They may be a "windy feeder". This can be caused by mechanical stressed through the head, face and throat, the cranial nerves of the tongue may be irritated where they exit from the skull which makes suckling difficult.
Sickness Colic and Wind - Bringing up milk between feeds, bouts of prolonged crying due to colic and wind which is often worse in the evening. Once again cranial nerves can be irritated where they exit the skull. This can affect digestion along with the diaphragm which could be stressed or distorted compromising the stomach to retain its contents
Sleep Disturbance - The baby sleeps for only short periods and may sleep little (day or night) waking at the slightest noise. This is very common and could be the increased tension on the bony and membranous casing of the skull keeping the babies nervous system in a persistant alert state.
